Sea Buckthorn Extract

Barlowe's CyanthOx30^TM is extracted from Sea Buckthorn berries grown on the Tibetan Plateau. Although Sea Buckthorn is grown all over the world, with plants from all locations having a treasure trove of bioactive ingredients; due to the thin atmosphere, harsh sunlight, and rapidly changing, inhospitable climate conditions on the high altitude Tibetan Plateau, the Sea Buckthorn grown there has a much greater potency of protective anti-oxidants and other bioactives due to the need to protect itself from these harsh conditions. CyanthOx30^TM water-soluble extract is a bio-available, unique, and rich combination of polyphenols, proanthocyanidins, and bio-flavonoids. The chief bio-flavonoids are Quercetin, Kaempferol, and Isorhamnetin, which comprise approximately 20% of the product. Thanks to the harsh growing conditions, CyanthOx30^TM offers the highest anti-oxidant capability of any plant extract. Testing by Eurofins has shown that CyanthOx30^TM has an ORAC value of 895,281 umol TE/100g which is 8 times stronger than grape seed extract and 1.7 times greater than French maritime pine bark extract.

In addition, a clinical study (placebo controlled and double-blinded) on humans was recently published in Clinical Interventions in Aging (link to study is set out in the Research section below). This study showed that just 500mg of  CyanthOx30^TM increased blood levels (by almost 40%) of three different types of stem cells which should contribute to anti-aging, skin health, joint health, and cardio-vascular health. After analyzing the results, the researchers concluded that "consumption of [CyanthOx30^TM] resulted in selective mobilization of stem cell types involved in regenerative and reparative functions. These data may contribute to the understanding of the traditional uses of [sea buckthorn] for preventative health, regenerative health, and postponing the aging process." Various studies have reported the link between a lower number of circulating stem cells and the development of degenerative health problems. Thus, daily stem cell support helps regain and maintain optimal health.  Also, in another recent study, polyphenols from Sea Buckthorn berries were shown to increase SOD (Superoxide dismutase) by 11%, GSH-Px (Glutathione peroxidase) by 4%, and reduce MDA (Malondialdehyde) by 15% in a double blind, placebo-controlled study on 106 humans. SOD and GSH-Px play vital roles in protecting the body against free radicals, while MDA indicates the body's oxidation level. Increased SOD and GSH-Px, and reduced MDA, show that Sea Buckthorn polyphenols help activate the body's anti-oxidant defense system, which helps slow down the aging process.

Finally, further research has indicated that Sea Buckthorn proanthocyanidins are 5.3 times more potent than Bilberry anthocyanins against age related macular degeneration, that it may greatly benefit skin regeneration repair and promote collagen cross-linking, that it can help lower triglycerides, LDL, and blood sugar while increasing HDL, and that it can help heal serious stomach issues.
